The Loch Lomond Initiative began in 2015 following discussions between clans about how to create more active involvement in Scottish heritage and clan life.
The first gatherings focused on bringing clans together through participation rather than competition, encouraging families and younger generations to take part directly in events and shared activities.
This approach was first introduced at the Luss Highland Games in 2017, led by Clan Colquhoun, with members of Clan Buchanan and Clan MacEwen taking part. The response was immediate and encouraging, leading to wider interest and growing involvement.
Since then, the Initiative has expanded to include Clan Graham and Clan MacFarlane and has continued to develop through gatherings in Scotland and abroad. Events such as the BBC-filmed Loch Lomond Gathering, the 2024 Kilts and Cowboy Boots Gathering in San Antonio, and the 2025 Luss Gathering have welcomed participants from Canada, Scandinavia, Australia, and beyond.
For many people, these events provide an opportunity to experience their clan history through shared gatherings, activities, and visits to Scotland.
